How long have you had the headache? Is it really severe with a stiff neck and/or a fever? If so, go to your doctor very soon.
Otherwise there are a few alternative therapies that are very effective. I use chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy and aromatherapy (Lavender works best for me). I have had chronic migraines for years and went through many rounds of prescription medication. Now I don't take any, except an occasional tylenol and I get less than 1 headache a month.
Many people find that accupuncture, reflexology, or biofeedback work well for them.

Check with your doctor to make sure nothing is seriously wrong, but until you can do so, I would suggest relaxing in a dark room, with a light cover, and a cool cloth on your forehead/ eyes. You could also try a lukewarm bath to keep your temperature at a close to normal level. Drink liquids often, but not excessively, until your headache lets up. No more headache tablets should be taken. You need to flush your system out. This is the only thing that works for me.

If you can still purchase B.C.Headache Powders, they are the best over-counter medicine for migraine headaches & tension headaches. It is a medication for adults only. It comes in small individual packets, 50 or more to a box, and you mix only 1 packet with a glass of water, drink it down, and before you know it, your headache is gone, gone, gone. There are no narcotics in this medicine, but ask your doctor about it, if you feel edgy about this med or if you've never heard of it. It's been on the market for years. If you want a prescription that has Tylenol plus codeine, ask your doctor for "Fioricet". One tablet takes away the meanest of headaches. Hope you feel better. Also, try pressing your index finger plus the 2 fingers next to it, firmly against your temples and hold it for 10 to 15 seconds, release, and do it again, 5 or 6 more times. Sometimes that helps me, also.

Try taking tylenol one time and ibuprophin the next. You are safe to do this every 2 to 3 hours as long as you switch from one to the other. Do not take them back to back, like tylenol and then tylenol again that soon together as it would be an overdose of tylenol. But do not do this untill your dose of excedrin has expired. If you have that bad of a headache, you could have migranes. There is a special shot they have at hospitals for that. You may want to check that out. OR....you could have high blood pressure that is unchecked. You should really get that checked out also as it could be dangerous. Get well soon.

I take Alfalfa pills for a headache 2-4 depending on how severe the headache is. They work great ! They will not upset your stomach at all, unless of course you have an allergy to Alfalfa, then do not take them. You can buy them where ever you buy your herbs and vitamins.
Most important... headaches can be a warning sign of something serious, so if you have not discussed this with a doctor yet please do as soon as possible. It may be something as simple as you need glasses or new glasses, too much stress in your life, allergies, too much time on the computer( especially people who work everyday with computers .. you need to take a break from your screen at least once every hour or two for at least 5-10 minutes ), to something very serious like aneurysm, stroke,or high blood pressure. So please take care and go see your family doctor.

There is an herb called Feverfew that is specific for migraines, and headaches in general. I recommend that, unless you are close to surgery or on a blood thinner already. If you are, I recommend Chammomile anad Mullein together. All are available at Health food stores, and easily gotten. I am at windstarhealing.com if you have any questions. I hope you feel better!

Massage the muscles in the back of the neck and roll your head a few times and sometimes that can help, also drink a large glass of water because a headache can be a sign of dehydration. Also if you ever get a localized "stabbing" sensation in your head seek medical attention fast.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

I would suggest laying down someplace comfortable and turning off the lights and see if you may be able to relax....if that doesnt work, try a Goody powder (if no Aspirin allergy), they have knocked out pretty bad headaches for me in no time. They arent great on the lining of your stomach and they taste really bad (try taking with soda) but they work.

Maybe it's a migraine then. Migraines are characterized by the most excruciating headache you've ever felt, nausea, & sensitivity to light & sound. There are prescription meds, but they don't work for everyone. You're better off to figure out what triggers your migraine & avoid it, because they're so hard to treat once they start.
