My son has a fever of 103.6, and it has been there for the last hour. Well, this morning he had a fever of 103, but it broke after tylenol and motrin and a cool bath, however this time I had to give him tylenol and motrin both an hour early, and so far it hasn't broke....... my ???? is should I wait it out until tomarrow and take him to a doctor, or should I take him to the ER tonight..... past experiences with the ER is simple... they sent me home everytime, and I wasted money to go there for nothing.... and then I wuold end up at the doctors a couple of days later.. and since I just gave him tylenol and motrin an hour ago.... I was thinking about waiting a little longer to see if it breaks, and if it keeps going up I'll take him. But my husband on the other hand says to wait, so... if anyone has dealt with this, what will the ER do if not send me home... If I can't get it to go down.. what will happen?? Also my son is 2 years old. Thanks!!!

Keep giving him the Tylenol and Motrin. Children's fever tend to spike back up in the evening when they have calmed down and are not quite as active. You may also try putting him in the tub with warm water, sometimes this will cause a fever to break. If it keeps rising, I would take him to the ER. Keep him well hydrated, provide plenty of fluids (no milk) and dont worry too much if he isnt eating.

Try putting him in a lukewarm bath. NOT a cold bath. From there place lukewarm washcloths on the temperature points of his body. Like on the area on the sides of his neck, under his arm pits, on the insides of his thighs (raise his scrodum and place there). Keep doing this, it make take several times of doing this. Between this and the meds his temp should go down. If not and his fever is present more than 3 hours at this level call the ER and then take him. Good luck and try not to worry tooooo much.

Speaking just from personal experience...when I was just under a year old I got very sick. My mom wanted to take me to the ER but my dad and my grandfather both said that she was blowing it out of proportion and that I'd be fine. Also, we were very poor, and Dad didn't think it was worth it to spend the money, because he didn't think I was that sick. She finally got so scared she stood up to them and took me to the ER. I was immediately admitted with some raging systemic infection, and the doctors said that if she'd waited a day longer I'd be dead. I was in the hospital for two weeks. Not to scare you or anything, but that's what happened. I say, you do need to find out why this keeps happening, but it's a lot better to be safe than sorry. Take your kid to the ER.

you might just want to call to the hospital first and to see if you do need to come in or if you don't because i had the same problem but that was when i was 10 because i had gotten strep throught once and they thought i got it again(which i didn't)!!a i had a fever of 103.2 the er said that to have a 5 day window and just watch it and if it's gettin' worse ten yeah go to the doctor.and also they said that they worry more about the younger kids that there worried about so just whatch and see what happens

yeah they sent him home but i bet they wouldnt let him go until that fever broke. I never played with a fever, if I couldnt get it to go down, I would go straight to er. My God his temp is 103, I thought it was saying 100.3. If that temp hasnt gone down in an hour I would diffinitly take him. He will soon be going into seizures. I will be praying for you. God Bless!
