A period is a shedding of the lining of the uterus and the egg....so there fore there can not be a period . I have done alot of reading about this and a woman may think its a period, but it can be a number of different things. It can be hemorraging( which can be common and not harmful), it can be cysts on the ovaries, implantation, etc..a number of different things. Its not an actual period, even though some say it is. Yes some women can bleed throughout their pregnancy and be fine.

alot of the times women mistake bleeding during a pregnancy as a period, its is either a miscarriage, implantation occurring, or the pregnancy is in serious danger, i.e. hemorrhaging,
hormones levels are different with a period and a pregnancy, your body cant do both
