Mine was when my sister, who at the time was 32 she broght her now husband to Thanksgiving Dinner. 2000 to be exact, the problem for my Mom was he was 62 and old enough our G. Grandpa. My Mom went off told them to get out. There will be no dinner, for that kind of going ons in Her House. And she threw the ham, they brought right behind them. I was so embarassed for my sister. Every holiday my sisters 68 yr. old husband brings that up. Just to torture my Mom. We laugh at it now. It wasn't funny then. After that holiday upset, I thought wise it to cook dinner at my home that way it's nutural territory. It worked.

As bad as things may seem, there really is one thing we all can agree on. Is we make it through whatever it is. Hopefully, never to experience those things ever in this life AGAIN! Thanks 4 being so CANDID!

I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness, so I have no holiday memories. My parents felt it was wrong to celebrate. I am making some now...but it's odd to look back and not have the memories there.

Wow, some real harsh stories there. I really don't have a "worst holiday" memory, however, this Thanksgiving (last week) we went to Mexico with 3 other families and one by one, just about everyone got sick w/the flu. I bragged because my family didn't get it, until the last day. FIrst my husband then we waited 8 hours to cross the border (never again!) and that night me & my 2 kids woke up horribly sick! So, my memories of this T-day 2006 are tainted with the Montezuma's revenge. I am still thankful though. :)

My worst holiday memory used to be that I missed my Kindergarden Christmas party because I had the chicken pox. Knowing all the fun everyone was having, and all the sweets they were eating, and I was at home itching, and I hadn't ever seen a chicken, much less be close enough to catch anything. (or at least, that's what my 5 year old mind thought at the time)

Nowadays, my future holiday memories will include the tragic suicide of my brother-in-law, two days after Christmas. Any time I hear caroling, I'm reminded that he was too depressed to come to our home for caroling, and although we knew something was wrong, we chalked it up to holiday blues. My nephew has the worst holiday memory of all, as not only did he loose his father so soon in his life, and after Christmas at that, he will always remember that his father was buried on his birthday...

It was the Christmas right before my family became homeless. To say we were struggling is an understatement. I had two young children...no money, no presents, no Christmas tree. A local group helped us out, but it was heartbreaking to know that I had absolutely no part in providing their sweet smiles on that day.

That was the last Christmas that my children went without. I've made sure every year since then to show them the Spirit of the season. Maybe I overdo it sometimes, but I'll never let them feel that way again.

My worst holiday memory was when I was 17. My dad was an underground coalminer and the roof had collapsed. He got pinned by a large piece of rock. He spent that Christmas in the hospital having 1/2 of his foot amputated. We always went to my grandmother's house on X-mas eve and then we would come home and open our gifts. My mom was at the hospital w/ my dad, but she told me to go ahead and take my little brother to visit w/ the family and then come home and open our gifts alone. It was weird, us sitting there alone, ripping off that paper. After I put my brother to bed, I cried the whole time I was cleaning everything up. I've never told my parents that, but I think about it every year. Everytime you flip a switch and your light comes on, thank a coalminer.

Oh man - mine isn't the worst compared to the one about being homeless with two kids, but it sure stunk for me.

It was last christmas right after my parent's started the divorce process. I was working retail in a mall because I had lost my job earlier that year and I had to work christmas eve. My mom (who I was close to during the schism the divorce created) went out of town to visit her parents for christmas. And my dad and sister (who cut me off from almost all contact until the divorce was finalized because I had been on my mom's 'side' ) wanted nothing to do with me.

So I went home at 10:00 at night on christmas eve to an empty, roommate-free apartment and baked a pie and wrapped presents and watched the southpark holiday special. I almost drank some boone's farm apple wine (ew) but I realized that it was waaaay too cliche and waaaay too pathetic to drink alone on christmas eve.

I was very fortunate to have kindhearted family friends that took me in on Christmas day and made me a meal and exchanged gifts with me. That was why I baked the pie and was wrapping presents - for them. And from that day on - I realized that my blood family might not always be there for me and that I have to make my own good holidays.

On December 23rd 1984 my grandfather passed away and then on December 25th 1984 my good friend and classmate passed away. I went to 2 funerals in 2 Days. The death of my grandfather didn't upset me as much as my friend. She was only 18 years young and had her whole life in front of her. Ever since 1984, Christmas has never been the same.
