Yes I have. I moved to Las Vegas at age 17 in search of my dreams and ended up on the streets homeless for over a year. Locked out of my apartment with only the clothes on my back I survived the hard way. I lived with prostitutes, drug addicts, criminals and other people who fell threw the cracks in search of their dreams. I learned how to survive anyway I could. However, I never lost hope and it was hope that kept me alive. Today I am successful and have devoted my life to helping other people. I run a support group in Las Vegas and develop products for people suffering from Stress and Anxiety. http://www.Attackanxiety.com It was truly tough. Life on the street is not easy. However, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world as it has helped shape me into a much better person. When people lose hope.... they die.

Someone who is poor and on the street with no hope does not have the faintest idea about all the help that is in their town.
I would say the best thing you can do for people like that is to give them a list of where they can go to get some help.
It seems like people who run shelters and free food places give them cutsey little names instead of something with a clue as to what they really are.
There should be a section in the phone book and the newspaper, etc. that is especially for poor people. It should say exactly what it is and what it does. Poor/down and out/free food/warm shelter/bed for night, etc.
These people don't know that "Old Mother Hubbard' is the name of the free food place! Do them a favor and make a list - make it your mission in life to find out all the places where they can get clothes, household goods, food, a bath, child care, a job, whatever...
That would be more help than you know. Bless you for having such a kind spirit.

Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. If you have sufficient vacation time, use some of it, to go to a city that is rebuilding, areas hit by Hurricane Katrina.
