I am encouraged that they are finally spending some money, and it can really only get better from where they have been the last couple years.
I could certainly see them in the wild card race late, and you just never know - who would have expected the Tigers to be where they were lasr tear?

better than last year but just because of the addition of soriano. The key is pitching. Prior and wood keep getting hurt but if not and they play as well as they can maybe a wild card team. Joe Girardi would have been a better coach for the Cubs having played there and he just got manager of the year and it was the perfect opporotunity. The owner of the Marlins is a total idiot. He has no idea whatsoever of what he is doing. The Cubs could have gotten manager of the year. Now Girardi has to be a broadcaster for a year and wait for Joe Torre to retire.

With the addition of Alfonso Soriano, Their offense will be as explosive as ever. However, the pitching is a little shaky, with Prior (aka Mr. Injury Prone), and during the offseason, they will have to pick up a few solid pitchers they can rely on later on to pull them through the mid months of the season.
I'd say they have a shot at wild card 2007, because the NL central is a good division, with other teams like Cardinals, Astros, Cincinnati, and Milwaukee all .500+ winning pct, the Cubs will have to prove their dominance, which will be tough, but might be able to pull off playoffs next year.

They are strengthening their hitting and fielding. Now they need to work on the bullpen and starting rotation. They look as though they are willing to make moves to insure they get in to the playoffs. Cubs fans certainly deserve a contender!! In 07!!

they have made some great pick-ups but what about there pitching they need a big name solid pitcher the year is really going to rest on the pitching staff the past 2 years that has been the biggest problem ....why did they keep Wood???

Still no pitching. Wood and Prior are not the answers. Lou will provide is side show which I'm sure the fans will get sick and tired of in a hurry. If they play .500 ball that would be good.

They may be better than we all know. They made an offer to Jason Schmidt and it's supposed to be a good one. The list keep getting bigger. Can the Curse be over?

Never it will be another 100 years before they win it all, they are the freaking Cubs....You can put an all-star team in that uniform and they still won't win...but you Cubs fans are like the battered woman who just can't leave her cheating man, you are just going to keep getting your heart broke...year after year after year!!!!

For sure, they picked up Soriano for big bucks and if there pitching staff is any good than a few years ago they will be a division rival to the cardinals.
