A degree from a top "culinary arts"school can be your ticket to a great paying job if not owning your own restaurant outright. My friend went to "Johnson & Wales" university in Providence,Rhode Island a two year "cullinary arts" program and was working at a top resturant in Boston,Mass on a fellowship before finishing his first year making 70K a year and these days he's the head chef on a Royal Carribean cruise ship making over 100K a year and he only works six (6) months of the year.True he's a exception but I know a lot of people who went to school to learn how to cook who are living very nice lives.

culinary school is for people who want high paying culinary jobs. Not for people who want to make steaks at the Outback. And if you want to work in a 4star restaurant then yes you need a degree. and also many schools will help you with job placement.

Culinary school offers a lot of great options for you, not just working at Chili's, unless that's all you want. Go for it, you'll be happy you did.
