Blogging, from the original term "weblog," is typing and submitting text to an online journal or similar web service. It is static and editable, and although other individuals may comment on its entries there is generally little direct exchange between users.
Chatting involves a chat "client," like a chat room, instant messenger, or similar application. It involves two or more individuals having a direct conversation and interacting in "real time." Chatting is closer to a phone conversation, and is sometimes enhanced by audio, video and even gaming features.
