Is there a word that means: To go up a social class?

For example: when a person goes from the lower class to the middle class, or when a middle class person goes up a social level to the upper class. What is the term for that?

I remember hearing this word in high school, but I forgot what it was.

umm it might be "climbing the scocial ladder" but imnot sure.
