vicodin will not work here.
It's one of those drugs that will put you into a catatonic state, and doctors usually only prescribe them to surgery-recovery patients or those with severe chronic pain.
Look for OTC drugs with naproxen sodium ( about 200 -250 millligrams for an adult) in them or try Pamprin.
Some people swear by B1 (thiamin) pills, haven't tried them myself but it's a cheap low-risk alternative.
Try to keep caffeine and salt out of your diet a few days before menses.
Midol usually works for me, but sometimes I use a heating pad, and load up of Ibuprofen.
Quinine Sulfate is the end-all for most people, but you will need a prescription for that.

More than likely your doctor is going to need to run some test before they will prescribe that type of pain killer. Vicodin and lortabs are high habit forming medications and they should not be dispensed like candy. You need to get down to the bottom of this there is probably a reason why your cramps are increasing in strength. You might have a hormonal imbalance that can be controlled with birth control or you might have an ovarian cyst. I would recommend that you go to your doctor and have them do some blood work to see if you have a hormonal imbalance. Good Luck and try to stay off of pain killers if at all possible it is for your own good.

Believe it or not I had the same problem and a friend of mine suggested that I take coral calcium 3 times a day and I can tell you after 1 month what a wonderful difference....less cramps, much lighter mensies and fewer days. I suffered terribly every month until this past year since given this information and at the very most if ever I have to take a few ibuprofen for mild cramps now.
I take SWISS coral calcium 2-3 times daily.

Not uncommon at all. By the way, if you read your Midol package, it's just regular acetaminophen with caffeine. Basically it's like washing a Tylenol down with a cup of coffee. If you're not sure about turning to prescription drugs, try Motrin instead of of Midol.

U probably need Motrin. And put a magnet on your belly , take one off the fridge.
Fill a empty drink bottle with hot water and put on belly too.
lortabs and other prescriptions will not help ya in the long run

Aleve every 12 hours during your period.
And it wouldn't hurt to talk to the gyno about the pain increasing. If you are not on the pill, she may prescribe, as it is known to reduce cramps. Then test for endometriosis, etc, that may be causing them to increase.

No I don't think it's uncommon, but my doctor gave me a pill called "Anaprox" ask your doctor about that one. Always does the trick for me. It is a fantastic muscle relaxer. Takes away my pain almost imedietaly after I take it.

I've been successful in warding off cramps with Aleve. I normally take 2 when I know my period is about to begin and continue to take 2 every 12 hours until my period starts to ease.
