I think of this dream I had once where "God" changed shapes depending on how and when I looked at him. He was like clay that molded itself to fit my mind. I think this dream applies to real life as well, as no religion has a fixed vision of their god(s). God means a different thing to each individual person. It also depends on whatever situation the individual is going through. If one is not doing too well, they may have extra faith in their god, or they may despise their god. If one is doing terrific, he may see his god as the holy, magnificent, glowing figure that many religions teach! When I hear the word God, all of that kinda comes to mind for me.
