I've got a WAshburn D10S acoustic and I have never changed the strings.before . A friend told me that I should replace them
what kinds of strings should I get?

the other reason why I want to change the strings is because when I press on the frets my fingers hurts

Yeah, you should change your strings fairly often, that is if you play very often. If your fingers hurt, then the strings are for sure old and rusted and just plain nasty, covered in gunk! I suggest getting some Martin strings. Better yet, take your guitar down to the local music shop and have them restring your guitar for you. They can help you pick out the best strings, depending on what kind of sound you want to get out of your guitar. And they can lower the action (this may also help, if your fingers are hurting when you press on the frets).
