Wich store has the better buy for oranges? for apples?

A. $3.00 for five pounds and apples at $3.99fot three pounds.

B. Off stree market oranges at $2.59 for four pounds and apples at $1.98

$3.99 for 3 pounds is $1.33 per pound

B. $2.59 for 4 pounds is 65 cents per pound

At Store A, oranges are $3.00 for 5 pounds.

This is 3.00/5 = 60 cents per pound.

Apples are $3.99 for 3 pounds.

This is $3.99/3 = $1.33 per pound.

At Store B, Oranges are $2.59 for 4 pounds.

This is 2.59/4 = 64.75 cents per pound.

Buy your oranges at Store A.

It doesn't look like you gave the weight of apples that $1.98 buys at Store B. Without this information, we can't finish the problem.

The answer is A .60 per pound on oranges and 1.33 on apples. B comes out to almost .65 on oranges and 1.98 on apples.

A. divide price by weight to find cost per pound, and see which is cheaper. Same method for B, assuming you were told how many pounds for $1.98 and forgot to tell us! And are oranges and apples really supposed to be mixed?
