A regular earthquake is called a '1' on the magnitude scale. In California and Nevada, within the last week, there were 380 earthquakes. Two ranked as magnitude 4. Two also ranked as magnitude 3. All the others were magnitude 1 or 2, with most being magnitude 1.

So your question is: How long does a magnitude 1 earthquake last on average?

Some factors are uncertain in this question. For example:
Are you asking how long the earth shakes at the place the earthquake occurs? The answer is - from 1 to 4 seconds.
Are you asking how long (far - in distance) the shaking will will be noticeable? The answer is ' from 0-400 km. this depends on the depth of the epicenter.

Note from quake.usgs.gov
Earthquake magnitude is a logarithmic measure of earthquake size. In simple terms, this means that at the same distance from the earthquake, the shaking will be 10 times as large during a magnitude 5 earthquake as during a magnitude 4 earthquake. The total amount of energy released by the earthquake, however, goes up by a factor of 32.

;-D Earthquakes are interesting - even fun - up to a magnitude 5 or so. Then things get - interesting. Magnitude 6 or higher can be terrifying.

I doubt there's an answer since most earthquakes have accelerations so small that humans cant' detect them.
