i have heard that they hibernate in the tops of pine trees and am questioning whether this is true

I don't think porcupines hibernate, they will use dens, and tree hollows to sleep in. I know they can climb because I once was out hiking and found a mother and her baby up high in a tree.

yes, porcupines do climb trees, and I don't believe they burrow, so I'd guess that a porcupine would hibernate (if they do) in a tall, hollow tree, or a hollow log.

this seems more a myth than reality. Hybernation,as scientifically proved,is either a part of life cycle or a winter protection.Porcupines may do this for the latter but hedgehogs are really tropical
