I heard that putting hot instead of cold water in a christmas tree makes it last longer. Is that true?

Don't put anything in the water,it may clog the system that takes the water up. I tried all those things and the trees stop taking up water & they dry out quicker.
Wilt-proof does seal off the needles, but it also seals off the aroma.
I buy a Fraser Fir, make a fresh cut, and put in the hottest tap water I can get. Each time I add water (some trimes twice a day), I again use Hot Tap water.
A couple of years ago, I got the buds on the tree to burst using Hot Tap water

It may last 15 minutes longer because 15 minutes after you put "hot" water in the saucer it will cool down to room temperature. Conversely, 15 minutes after you put "cold" water in it will warm up to room temperature.

There are better and more effective ways to prolong a tree's "life" other than water temp. There are additives you can buy at most places that sell live greens. There are antidessicants, like Wiltpruf, that you can spray directly on the needles to keep them from losing water. If you have further questions you may e-mail me.

Yes this is true. The plant can uptake the warm water easier than the cold water. Start with a fresh cut at the bottom of the tree.
