Get a switch and hook it to one of the LAN ports on the router. Connect computers 4 & 5 to the switch.

If I understand you correctly, you're trying to connect your laptop through your desktop by having two nic cards in the desktop? This can be done on a server with routing and remote access installed (the server acts as a router for the second computer), but I've never heard of it being done on a workstation. Even if you could get this done, you'd still have DNS/DHCP issues.

Buy a simple switch. Connect the switch to the router, then both your computers to the switch.
