Galactic collisions trigger vast starburst regions. In other words, billions of new suns form as a result of the tidal gravitational forces of two galaxies interacting with each other. Billions of new suns equals billions of new chances for life to form, so it is now thought that galactic collisions are no mere accidents but part of the grand design for populating the universe with life. Such galactic interactions take hundreds of millions of years, so no video would show any actual movement. However, you can find some great pictures of galaxies in the process of merging on NASA's website. Our own galaxy, the Milky Way, will do a little dance with our next door neighbor galaxy, the Andromeda, in a billion years or so. The two galaxies will do a little do-se-do and the bigger galaxy (the Andromeda) will steal a lot of the Milky Way's stars and at the same time each galaxy will erupt with billions of new blue giant suns. Should be quite a show.

Due to the vast distances, measured in light-years, between stars, colliding galaxys aren't quite the show you might think; it's possible for galaxys to "collide", yet no real collision of stars to take place. And such collisions generally span in the range of many thousands of years. So on video, you'd think you were looking at a still picture.

Collision of Galaxies of course.
They sometimes collide head on or sometimes pass close by or sometimes even pass through one another without major collision. Really depends on the shape (type) of galaxy and the shape faced at the time of collision. Go to Nasa's website for egs

That address gives a full account of what it is. In short, it's the result of one galaxy's gravity disturbing another galaxy to the point that they collide (or bump into one another), which could result in the merging of the galaxies.

"This is what its like when worlds collide" ~kaos on a scale so grand that it cannot be perceived by miniscule humans!
