Asians have stereotypically strict parenting, but Irish, Italian, and Polish parents sometimes do the same. Some Puerto Rican and Black parents have been around long enough to try tiger parenting, too, because they see it works. And there are many other types of new and old immigrants that get strict in various generations. For the most part, it's not that the others don't do tiger parenting, it's that there's almost a mandate to do it for Asians because the bubble is necessary to shield Asian kids from a vastly different culture that outnumbers them to the point of overwhelming. If they don't try to exceed the white people, they take a chance at being treated worse than the white people for the same degree, (because whites can become conditioned to associate with themselves when they are the majority, unless someone of color really stands out during hiring). BUT--there is also a small population of Asians that have "given up" and turned "ghetto" like some of the Blacks and Hispanics. Everyone ultimately has the chance to be extremely successful or voluntarily self-ghettoizing no matter who they are. It's the ones who remember the sacrifice of whoever was the immigrant that usually feel compelled to expect the best.

There are many colleges that are "historically black colleges" -- ie, Grambling, Southern, etc. These were started in an era where most colleges didn't admit any black people, sometimes through Jim Crow laws.

Today, those colleges are are a source of great pride on the part of black people. While it does seem strange to call them "black colleges" the truth is that there is a bit of racist "payback" spirit among some supporters. Southern, for instance, had a white guy as their starting quarterback, and let's just say that the college's alumni were not happy.

Someday, maybe in another 100 years, the "black" colleges will have that as part of their history, kinda like Harvard has their all-male tradition as part of history (as well as their refusal to accept black students for the most part).

I can understand where you are coming from, however I think having historically black colleges is a good thing as well as being culturally stimulating and approriate. I dont think it will affect the civil rights struggle at all. MLK would be proud of all the brothers and sisters attending HBCU, imo.

i don't think its so much as being racist but people jsut naturally gravitate towards people like them. i'm in a college where blacks and white are pretty much segrated in the cafeteria. it's just that we see things in a different light because of our race. i have black friends and i'm white. i hate it cause none of them understand me because they can't understand me. i'm from the south, they're from the the north like new york. it's just different, not racism. white people can relate to me better than any black person could cause they're more like me.

i never heard of that. I thought that any college would accept anyone, no matter of race, color or sex. i ma harvard or somthing would proably say it's because of somthing else, all they want is the young, blond preppy types... but to actually admit that they are all white, all balck etc... tha's just wierd.
