I have a laptop and norton antivirus 2006 and when the internet protection is on all my applications take a long time to load and they keep going into a non responsive mode. Anything to do about it without shutting off the protection which seems to speed my computer back up and stop the non responsive programs. Please help.

Well norton antivirus 2006 or any version .. well as an expert my view is that .. it kills the processor by loading too much of its program... u can just switch on too.... AVG antivirus free edition 7.5 or professional edition if u can pay for it..... i use the professional edition & its quite fast ... protects the laptop 100 times better than Norton...

Norton Antivirus 2006 is the slowest of all the Norton products. Get rid of it as it uses too much memory, and slows down ur comp. If u r opting for a change, then u can try the new norton antivirus 2007, which is relatively faster and uses lesser memory than NAV 2006. Otherwise u can free ur comp, by getting rid of several startup processes and freeing up ur memory, so that NAV 2006 can run smoothly, but still i wouldnt keep NAV 2006. It is best to get rid of it completely. I would recommend the free AVG antivirus 7.5

Get rid of Norton. Get the AVG Free antivirus. Download CCleaner as well to clean out all unnecessary files that could slow you down. Both programs rock. And you don't need to pay a cent.

The first link is for AVG, the second for CCleaner

If you are blaming Norton anti virus 2006 for taking along time to load.... you must be wrong because if it does then you have ALOT of things on your PC or too much, I suggest NOT turning off the protection, it prevents viruses I have Norton anti virus also, I've been working with it for along time, it never gave me any problems. Use your Disk Defragmenter on your computer and the Disk Cleanup... it will clear your computer and help.
