The real thing; top to bottom the Tigers are a solid, talented team. Think of the them as the AL's version of the Florida Marlins, always in contention and dangerous, with 2 World Series championships in their short history.

If you are talking about last season , yes , they are a fluke especially in the Fall Classic. How the hell do you commit an error in each game of the World Series? YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL AFTER WHAT YOU DID THE FIRST 2 ROUNDS. The only pitcher who played well consistently was Rogers , Verlander was average and so was everyone else. And all those idiotic errors didn't help the Tigers cause either.

If you are talking about next season , no , they are not a fluke. Verlander can only get better from here. With more experience , they won't choke away like they did in the World Series and probably be back. Of course , it is very difficult for teams to repeat especially in baseball. We saw with Chicago how they barely missed the playoffs this year , and with a bigger target on their back , the Tigers may fall victim and miss the playoffs too. But not by much.

Were the White Sox a fluke? Red Sox? Marlins before that?

Don't say yes just because your a yankees fan.

They built a great TEAM there, based on Solid pitching, and some power hitting (young players too)

Then they brought in the guy (Leyland) to change the team culture into a winning one.

I am not a Tigers fan, but anyone who says it was a fluke is plain stupid. They put in years of hard work, getting Pudge to handle their young pitching staff, getting Bonderman from Oakland, selecting a guy who had potential, but control problems (Verlander) and working with him. No one expected Verlander to be drafted that high because he couldn't control his pitchers, he could in 2006. They brought in Kenny Rogers to lead that young staff, and bring a bit if experience (and maybe Pine Tar.)

It was no fluke, it was a lot of hard work. Because they were a bad team for so long, no one noticed how much work it was.

It did crash in the World Series, but come on, they played well for the 6 months before that.

I don't think they will make the playoffs in 2007, their pitching will regress *like the white sox* and there are too many good teams in the AL, yet alone the AL central.

Fluke.

They lost 31 of 50 to close the season and just happened to have a hot streak at the right time against teams that weren't playing well. Even Tampa Bay and Kansas City ( who actually SWEPT Detroit at least once last season) can get hot at any time. 31 out of 50 is a lot of games, thats almost a third of the season, which is a pretty good indicator that they were not that great of a team. I think they'll win about 85 games next year, Leyland will chain smoke his way through another season, before again deciding he is burnt out, then leaving.

I think next season will prove they are no fluke. There starting rotation is still very young and will improve even more. There bullpen is full of strikeout pitchers. They are well managed and have a well balanced hitting lineup.

Its a real tough division. Remember the year before last the Tigers weren't a consideration. Then their pitching got more mature and voila theyre contenders. Pitching wins championships.

The only fluke about them was that they didn't win the World Series.

This from a Yankee fan... I think that they are the real deal. The central in the AL is the strongest and I believe that the wild card will come out of this division again.

We'll find out next season.

But I don't think they are.
Will they make the playoffs in '07?
They have a good chance.
Their pitching needs to remain solid.
