it really depends on the look
a natural lining- you know toward your nose, where the colored part of your eye ends, well start from that spot then bring the liner over to the outer corner of your eye, you want it to be a little thicker as you get to the outer corner, then for a little extra "glam" you kind of "wing out" from the outer corner, that will give you almost a egpytion look
now if you're going for something a little heavier....like "gothic" you apply it a little thick from your tear duct to the outer corner of your eye.....i found that liquid liner works best for this look
it also depends on the size and shape (and beauty...^-^) of your eyes

Oh my gosh, I had a really big problem with eyeliner when I first started using it.
Here's some advice,
stretch your eye out with a finger, that will smooth out the surface, which will make it easier to apply the eyeliner.
Also, Qtips help to even the eyeliner out without smudging it.
Don't get frusterated. One time, I got so angry, that I drew all over my face with eyeliner. It was fun!
Anyway, good luck

i have th eperfect asnwer for you girl!
-okay you need:
pencil liner
a friend,or parent, that can be very still, and not shake alot.
eyeliner
-first step:
you first take a sharp pencil liner, then start by your inner eye ,and if you like ,you can make it thin by inner eye and thicker at the end. (make sure your eyeliner is close to the lash line)so you start the pencil liner, and stop half way ,don't go all the way to the ned, just half way.
second step :
take the EYE LINER and start where you pencil liner started, and PASS the pencil liner ,and make sure the eyeliner is very close to the lash line, and don't make a curve with the eye liner ,it will curve when opening your eyes
wait for 2 or 3 mintues so it all can dry!

if u want to go all around always use a pencil. the twist tube type works the best. dont go all the way around in one go. go from the inner part of ur top lid(closest to nose). stop a little bit before the end of the the lid. do the same with the bottom. then connect both lines. remember.... take your time!! it'll take a while before it's perfect. took me about a year.

I used to work for Lancome and I assited people with their makeup all the time. Go to the mall or a department store that has makeup counters and ask someone for some tips. They will be the most helpful bc it will be advice in person.

some people who have trouble with it and think that putting it on is painful just can use the liquid version!:) also, it's easier to get that smokey husky look by smudging if u use the liquid. if that's too hard, then maybe you should just out on a lot of mascara on the part of your eelashes closest to your eyes, and it will give the same effect.

Try painting the base of your lashes -where they meet the lid- instead of trying to get the line just on your eyelid. this helps the lashes look thicker because it gets color where mascara misses, plus it lines the eye.

Try making tiny, tiny 'x' marks one on top of the other as you go across the inner lid. I got this from a beauty article and found that it works.

JUST START ON THE INSIDE AND GO OUT WITH YOUR LINE. TRY NOT TO PULL ON YOUR EYELID. THAT'S VERY TENDER SKIN THERE.AND UNDER YOUR EYE TOO.
