It only works with iTunes but when I first got iTunes, it asked if I wanted to import all the songs already on my computer. And I can rip any of my CDs into iTunes and then put them on my iPod. When I download a song now, it is in My Music folder. I double-click it and iTunes opens to play it and now it's in my iTunes Music Library, too.

You can rip CD's and import them into your iTunes library. If you have purchased music from other websites, you can import them to your library too.
Don't steal music, it takes up like 2 times more space of a purchased or a CD song.
Hope this helps!

you can put your own music on it if it's an unprotected mp3 or mp4 file. you can also save your music, if it's on the computer, to a cd and then open itunes and rip the cd and then you can put the songs on your ipod.
