I do a lot of Adobe Photoshop work. I also have thousands of music and video files that take up a lot of space. However, I need to mobilize my pc and get a laptop. I like the look of the HP's. I had bad experiences with both Dell and Toshiba, so I won't buy one of those. I need something that can run several programs at once, have a lot of storage space, and have a great screen resolution. I would also like to be able to access wireless easily. Is the HP dv9040us a good laptop choice for me?

I've never been please with the Mac OS, or else and Apple would be nice. $ really isn't an issue. I have student loan and grant money to help me pay for it. Thinking the 17" would be nice because I do large background images and such.

When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them, and everything is Vista ready.
Microsoft is about to release its latest operating system, Vista, in January. It’s going to make all of these “bargain” computers nothing but JUNK as soon as it’s released. The reason that you are seeing so many cheap systems on the market right now is because a lot of them CAN’T RUN Vista and the merchants are trying to dump them as hard and fast as they can before Vista shows up and everyone learns what a piece of crap they were sold for $500 (or whatever).
Anyway, I bought a complete, new system from stupidcheapcomputers.net with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout.
I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind.
Good luck!

Awesome - the specs look brilliant and should provide you with excellent storage and processing capability.
I myself am planning to buy an(other) HP, but I don't wanna go for a 17" (too big for me) nor do I need 260 GB (Have a 500 GB external HDD) - I am looking to buy one of these:
HP Pavilion 15.4” (DV6149US)
Intel® Core⢠2 Duo T5500
FSB 667, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, 120 GB HDD
or
HP Pavilion 15.4” (DV6135NR)
Intel® Core⢠2 Duo T5500
FSB 667, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, 120 GB HDD
Either of these are within $1200 (and might go down further in next couple of weeks - its Christmas) and barring the screen size and HDD, their specs are almost the same.

i would say so, i have an hp zd800 which was the same thing before they came out with intel core duo then they discontinued my model and came out with the dv9000 series, i know my computer has a 2.8 gig processor and 512mb or memory, i would suggest atleast a 2.5gig processor (definetly Duo) and atleast 1 gig (best would be 2 gig) hope i was some help. (ofcourse the best computer is only limited by your budget mine cost me a year ago $1600 so be careful if you're on a budget, and hp's support is great as long as you don't get one of the stupid people).

I love the HP 9000 Series.
If you do get one, buy one off their website so you can customize it. With the 9000 series, you can get a Dedicated (NOT SHARED!) 512 MB of video ram. That plus 2 GB of RAM will suit your needs. It'll support 2 Hard Drives so you can store tons of photos and music.
My last 2 laptops were HP's and I've never had a problem.
I say go for it!

Hope this helps!
