Every living thing is made up of one or more cells, and each of these cells was produced by an already existing cell. New cells are formed by dividing, so there are two cells where there once was one. Humans and some plants and animals develop from a single cell, but the cell grows to a certain size and then divides and forms two cells. These two cells grow and divide, forming four cells. This process of growth and divide process continues until they begin to specialize into a dog, fish or human being. There are two main types of cell division, mitosis and meiosis. Every kind of organism has a certain number of chromosomes in each of its body cells. Just to give you an example, human beings have 46; frogs, 26, plants 14. Without writing a long paper about the process, this is it in the short form.

The anatomy of the cell grows and starts to duplicate. Once each piece of anatomy is almost doubled, the cell begins to litterally divide into two equal cells.
