My friend asked me to buy some stuff for her while I was out of town and I gave her the stuff a month ago, and she came over and picked it up, but didn't pay me. Later on I gave her the receipt as a big hint and still NOTHING!? I know that her husband is really irresponsible with money..but do you think I should give up?

Sarah,

If she doesn't have the money she will be so embarrassed she may stop being your friend. It is a good thing in life never to LEND money. If you have a friend in need GIVE what you can afford, and never expect repayment. I lost a good friend at a time when I needed her because I couldn't let go of $20, now that amount seems ridiculous to me. I missed her a lot more than I missed the $20. Since you know now that she can't pay you back, be careful about when and how you "buy things for her". That way you won't get burned, and you can keep your friendship.

Stop hinting
Confront her and say nicely you know I really could use that money I loaned you last Month I am strapped for cash its the holidays and I really need it back now! Please right me a check here's a pen (Hand her a pen) right then. If she says she has no checks tell her that's OK we can run down to your bank and use your debt card or go into the bank and get it.
Don't take no for an answer!.
Then if she says she has no money after all this scenario
say well I really need it back, when do you get paid I will meet you at work To pick it up. I will be happy to take you to cash your check .If she says I have to pay this or that say well you owed me first. Please pay me.
Take it from a marketer and sales person I can squeeze cash from anyone when its owed don't take no for an answer!

Keep going showing up until she pays you ! don't take no for an answer.
Hope you have a copy of that receipt or at least the charge slip
otherwise court is not an option.

Good luck

If handing the reciept to her is your only attempt in requesting payment... put on your big girl panties and come right out and ask her for it... you can be reasonable and let her have a week or two to get it but... money is money... don't do it again unless your friends prepay first... and another thing... if she dosn't pay lesson learned... never mix money with frienship... hope this helps

Tell her you need the money she promised you and if she can't honor a simple agreement, then you can't trust her with anything, Finally tell her if she doesn't pay the money back, there will be consequences. Then wait about a week and tell everyone that she knows that she owes you money and refused to pay. Mention it A LOT eventually she will pay.

NO DON'T GIVE UP!!!

If the amount is over 500 dollars TAKE THE THIEF TO COURT!!!

THAT SHOULD DO THE TRICK!!! Not much of a friend if she won't pay you back so don't worry about losing a frind 'cause in my mind she aint' much of one to be doing that to you. With a friend like that who needs enimies?!!! LOL!!!

Holly!!!

No, don't give up,stop hinting and tell her you need your money back. If you don't, you will just end up resenting her, and souring your friendship.

ask her each time you see her if she has your money yet. if she says no then tell her to hurry up. if she still don't then find the amount of money she owes you and take it from her.like her purse or something.

I would figure on having one less friend and let it go. The alternitive is court.
