tell your child to stay up late and see if the tooth fairy is really real. That way you not saying yes or no allow them to see and decide on their own.and you won't be the bad guy for lying to your child

My daughter found out the truth about Santa, the tooth fairy, and the Easter bunny when she was 8. Until then, I was able to beat around the bush and respond with things like, "Do you think we can afford to buy things like that?" or "You know how I feel about you having a TV in your room. Do you really think I would've gotten one for you?"

I figure that, when they're really ready to hear the truth, they'll be persistent and continue to ask point-blank questions. When asked a straightforward question, I never lie - especially to a child. I don't like the message that sends.

I've seen others' answers here and, although I don't like to lie to anyone, I also hate the thought of a child growing up WITHOUT a belief in Santa, etc. for as long as possible.

Good luck on this one...

Do whatever you feel in your heart is right. Are you ready for them to give up on that fairy tale? If so, then tell them the truth. But eventually you are going to have to no matter what.
