I am not clear on whether you want to tan or you're trying to prevent yourself from tanning. If you're trying to avoid sun damage to your skin and tanning, wear a sunscreen with a high SPF and make sure it's provides "broad spectrum" protection meaning it blocks UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays are the ones that burn and tan you. UVA rays are the rays that penetrate into your skin and cause pre-mature aging and wrinkles.

If you're trying to tan which is not healthy, you don't need sunscreen.

Sunscreen will make it more difficult to get either a tan or a sunburn, which is good. There is no such thing as a healthy tan. Exposing human skin to sun causes wrinkles and sometimes skin cancer.

My mother's arms and legs look like they're melting. When she wears a house dress, you can see her shoulders, which were never exposed to the sun. The skin on her shoulders looks like a child's skin.
