Almost nowhere. Anything from the major record labels is not free, and this includes pretty much all of today's most popular artists. There are other sites out there that specialize in free music, but their offerings are composed of mostly smaller no-name or local bands that agree to distribute their music for free (usually in a bid to get recognized). Bottom line, if you've ever heard of the artist before, chances are you have to pay for the music.
Beware P2P applications such as Limewire - True Blue Aussie is incorrect, and is going to get sued for copyright infringement. While the use of P2P software is legal by itself, downloading copyrighted works (such as music) is illegal. P2P software can only legally be used to download files that are not copyrighted.
I will leave you with two things to Google: "Napster" and "FairUse4WM"

The majority of Limewire downloads are copyrighted and therefor illegal to download. Safest way is to pay for them.

umm nowhere theres limewire but its full of bugs plus the company says its legal but if you read the fine print it says they are legal but any illegal information we download they are not lyable for, basically your one your own... o yea and the government can trace any song you download back to you, and really everything on limewire that you download is basically illegal. so sorry but no way around it if you want to be legal youll have to pay
