I had the same issue with my son around that age and I used the NUBY brand. You can get them at Walmart for less then $2 dollars a sippy. They have softer nipples and my son took only about 2 days to get adjusted to them.He would refuse any other brand.

I would make going to buy sippy cups a fun event. Go to a store and have him pick out his favorite colors. Some sippy cups have characters on them that he may like. Make it a big deal. When you get home, pour two sippy cups of milk and you try one with him. Exaggerate how yummy the milk is from the sippy.
There may be a transition period where you use both bottles and sippy cups. Naps and bedtime may be the time where bottles are appropriate. Other times may be more appropriate for a sippy cup. Introduce the cup slowly and have a lot of fun with it.
Don't pressure him in any way whatsoever. If he doesn't want the sippy cup today, then try again in a week. Trust me, he will be off the bottle soon enough. You don't want to do anything to break the bond of trust he has with you by forcing something on him he doesn't want. One is not too old to still have a bottle. Just try to work the sippy cup into your feeding routine in a smooth way and it will all work out in the end.
Good luck to you!

make it a game to drink out of the sippy cup, reward him. Does he drink other fluids out of the cup and does he have a bottle at bedtime. If he does drink other liquids out of a cup, just give him that during waking and a bottle at bedtime. Then after a few days give him a milk cup just before a nap and no bottle. Be firm, if he's full and tired, he will sleep. Slowly try to cut out the bottles leaving the night one to last, be patient and dont give in.

My son is 11 months and he's already on a sippy cup. Start slowly. Don't take the bottle away suddenly. Especially if he's "attached" to it. But do try to wean him of it soon, especially if he's got teeth. It can cause decay and crooked(ness). Hope this helps! Good Luck

My son was 9 months when we stopped the bottle. I got the cups with soft silicone tops that are similar to bottles then switched to cups with hard tops. You can start by offering juice or water in the cup then when he gets the hang of it switch completely to cup (milk, juice, and water). It took my son a while to be happy with the cup but he did finally give up an take it. Good Luck

My doctor suggested it at 6 months. He was using Avent bottles so I just bought Avent soft spout sippy nipples (cheaper than buying a whole cup. It just snaps into where the nipples go). He didn't take to it at first but he was still on formula and realized "hey I'm hungry" and after only a day he was a pro. They sell handles to put on them as well :)

I agree w/ your doctor, just throught the bottle away. one night after my daughter was asleep I just gathered all of her bottles and threw them all in the nearest dumpster. If there not there then the temptation isn't there when they are fussy. Just keep offering the sippy he will give in eventually as long as you don't.

expecting a baby. have been reading alot. read that sippy cups cause tooth decay on the back of the front teeth. they reccommend using a weighted on the bottom transition cup. helps them to guage how fast to lift, prevents more spills. iwould imagine that you only put a small amount at first. good luck.

you can do it that way or ask him if he is ready to be a BIG boy and just throw them away, maybe one at a time for now, or ask him if another baby baby can use them. I had a friend have her son throw his bottle in the river and they watched it go bye bye.the sippy cup can be just as hard to break him of though so be careful you dont give it to him to walk around with...Good Luck
