Wow... I don't know why, but it always amazes me that when a "Ouija Board" (more appropriately called a Spirit Board by the way) is mentioned people start screaming "Evil!" and "Dangerous". Really though, they are merely a tool and no more dangerous than say a car or a motorcycle.... you have to know how to use one properly, take reasonable precausions and never opperate one while *judgement impaired* in any way.
First, never use a strange board because you don't know if it has any protections at all on it. Second, always make sure the protection on your board is still active - refresh it often (after each use). Third, even with active protection on the board that will keep out demons and other things that were never human to begin with, remember this: You are dealing with a dead HUMAN if this human was a liar when they were living they will still be a liar as a spirit so don't make any choices based solely on something they say.
There aren't any really good sites that deal with the board that I know of (although I know there have to be some out there)... most are just tabloid-style horror stories and/or misinformation. I will post the link/adress of the least offencive site I know of below in the source box.
Ok, you asked for true stories so I'll give you 2: the worst outcome from using the board and the best advice I ever got from it.
Story #1. My step-brother had never seen a spirit board befor and when he saw Granny's (which she had given to me as a gift, WITH proper instruction in its use) he wanted to try it. I told him it shouldn't be approached lightly, shouldn't be treated as a game and was not a great idea since I knew he had drank a beer or two earlier but reluctantly agreed to do it since he wanted to so much (yeah I know, I didn't follow the rules myself even though I knew better). I refreshed the protection on the board and we contacted several different entities one of whom told him that he would be married (which he later was), would have 4 children (which he does) 3 of which would be girls and 1 boy (again correct), would join the military which made him laugh (he's a MP now) and that he would eventually divorce his wife (they are currently in the process). The last person we talked to was very entertaining but we both felt there was something not right about them so we took our hands off the planchette. It continued to move by itself. My brother freaked alittle but he continued to ask questions. The entity became some what beligerent when I questioned some of its statements and the planchette shot to the edge of the board, but when it hit the line of protection it stopped instantly. My brother was a bit scared and I was not amused so I ended the session and blanked the board. My brother has used the board a few times since then and I have used it many, but that entity has never bothered either of us or even tried to speak with us again.
Story #2 This occurred when I was much younger and actually shortly after Granny gave me the board. I was trying to contact my Grandfather (from my father's side) who had only recently died. Another entity (never identified itself) came through instead and warned me not to go with my mother in the van the next day or if I had too, not to ride up front. I asked why, but it was already gone. The next day mom asked if I wanted to go to the mall with her or go to Gram's. I chose to go with her and on the way I told her about the message the night befor. She acted pretty nonchalante about it but she pulled over and suggested I ride in back because there was "more room" and I could "stretch out" so I did. About a half hour after I moved to the back, the front passenger side tire blew and although she controlled the van pretty well it went off the side of the interstate and hit a tree. She was Ok and in the back I was Ok, but the van needed extensive repairs.... even though the engine and radiator were undamaged a limb of the tree had pierced the windshield and went all the way through the front passenger side seat.
Both of these stories are true, take them as you will.

Ouija boards do not "contact the spirit world". They are not "evil". They do not "open a doorway". They do not "summon demons". That's all part of the Ouija board's mythos. That Oujia boards are "evil" and all is just a self-perpetuating fear that has no basis in facts.

Ouija boards rely on the imperceptible muscular movements of those touching the planchet -- The thing that indicates letters.

Penn and Teller on their Showtime Show, "Bullsh*t" (with the letter I) fully and soundly debunked Ouija boards.

They had a group of people use a Ouija board normally. The planchet indicated words, apparently answered questions, etc. Nobody claimed to be moving the planchet. All very typical.

They then blindfolded the group and, without telling the group, rotated the Ouija board 180 degrees. The board didn't function as it did when the group was not blindfolded. For example, when a Yes/No question was asked, the planchet indicated the spots that "Yes" or "No" had been before the board was rotated. Neither did any words get accurately spelled out by the planchet.

Obviously, either spirits are completely blind or the Ouija board opperates based on the imperceptible muscular actions of the participants.

so my friends and i went into this creppy old house with an ouiji board. the people that use to live their left all their stuff there. a calendar on the wall said the year was 1939. we slowly made our way up the narrow steps of the house to the second story. we when one room and looked around. then we made our way down the hall to the last room. the door was closed so it didnt seem that inviting. we open the door and went inside. this is the apparently the place were the couple slept at being there was a bed in there and all. what was kinda creepy is that the bed looked like two people were sleeping in it. i went over to go inspect it and as soon as i was about to pull down the covers i heard a knock to my right. it was coming from the cabinet. i didn't pay no mind to it then i heard it three more times. the three of us started focusing all our attention on the dresser. then all of a sudden the hole thing starts to shake violently and inching away from the wall. i dropped my flashlight and we took off screaming out of the house. we accidentally left the ouiji board in the room. there is no way im ever going back there. i was always skeptical of ghost but after witnessing something like that i am a believer of something. the ouiji board usually just lies and wants to go in circles really fast. you dont even need an ouiji board you can use pretty much anything. we had some spirit moving a gallon of orange juice in circles really fast. could be just collective energy, but im not sure really.

I've never used one and I would agree with your mother. And I'm non-Christian so my religious stance has nothing to do with it.

My sister begged for one as a kid and she finally was able to have one. She could not get rid of it fast enough. I think she only used it one time too. First, while playing with friends, one of her friends became "possessed" by something otherworldy. Then when the friends went home and my sister went to bed, she put the board in its box in the living room. In her room, her overhead fan which was not on, starting running on its own. The room was boiling hot when the rest of the house was not. In the center of her bed, there was a huge rippling down the entire length as if something underneath or inside the bed was fighting its way out. She got rid of the board asap the next day.

You can also read many stories at www.mysticwicks.com. I have never once read any positive reviews or stories about the oujia boards. I don't believe there is any amount of safety net that you can conjure to protect yourself against whatever you may encounter.

I was recently told an account of a couple of people that used a Ouija board and then visited a house that was haunted. They had asked for something to happen to them. Well it did. They conjured up something evil that followed them home and had a lot of dangerous things happen to them. Things were flying at them, hitting them, messing with their car all the way home etc. After that we do not have anymore of this story. I do not know what ever became of the people...but I do know that what ever it was, was evil and scared them terribly..
They open a portal for evil to enter through and should not be used. It is just too dangerous

Wikipedia has a quite accurate history of the Ouija. It was never more than a 19th century parlor game which got a reputation for being satanic because Alister Crowley used it in some of his Pagan rituals. A lot of fundamentalist Churches had declared him the anti-Christ, a title in which he reveled. I had one as a kid, but I found chess or monopoly a lot more fun.

They are creepy!! I was at a slumber party when I was like 9, and a girl asked "What color panties am I wearing", and the thing came back pink, and it was right....and none of us knew what color they really were. Another girl asked "how old will I be when I die", and it said 16. She died in a car crash 2 months after her sweet 16. Stay away from those things! I don't care what anyone else says about them, they are real and they are evil!

Your mother is right. Don't play with it. It's not a toy and can get you into deep trouble. The board opens the door between the worlds and you can't control what comes through that door.

go ahead experiment with it don't let people persuade you not to use it but don't let people push you in to doing it either but 1 word of warning do not do it in your home.
And to the rest of you who don't agree that you should fiddle with ouija boards live a little
