Sims 2 requires a higher computer specification that Sims 1.

Firstly you need to make sure your video card is one of the ones supported in the minimum specs. Then you need to check your CPU is fast enough. 800 MHz processor is the minimum, 3.0 GHz makes gameplay smooth as.

Also you need plenty of RAM. While 512MB should be enough, 1.0 GB RAM is better, particularly on big community lots with loads of Sims running around.

And lastly, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Check with the manufacturer's website and update if required.
---------------------------------------------
From EA:

If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:

* 800 MHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least:

* 2.0 GHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

Get the most current driver for your video card. The manufacturers usually have the video drivers on their sites for you to download. Visit the nVidia site, the ATI site or the support site for your computer's manufacturer for the latest drivers for those video cards.

Supported video cards (and the more video memory the better):

* ATI RadeonTM series (7000 or better)
o Radeon 7000/VE series (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)
o 7200, 7500
o 8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
o 9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
o X300, X600, X800

* Nvidia® QuadroTM series
o Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

* Nvidia® Geforce series (GeForce2 and better)
o GeForce2
o GeForce3, 3 Ti
o GeForce4, 4Ti, MX 420, 440
o GeForce FX 5200, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950
o GeForce 6600, 6800

* Intel® Extreme Graphics (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)
o 82845, 82865, 82915

You have to understand that for every computer games out there, they have different sys requirements. Meaning not all computers are the same, some are old and slow, some are new and fast, some are so advanced using Dual-Xeon design for industrial use with heavy video imaging usage.

Now that you understand that computers are different, playing the latest pc games is a risky affair. Simply put in order for you to play the sims 2 faster you can try to check if your graphics card has the latest driver. Configure the graphics to lower settings in the sims 2 menu. Check your direct X drivers. Scan your computer for any virus that may cause your pc to slow down. Upgrade your RAM memory. Try to increase your virtual memory.

If you find it too much to digest just buy a video game console. If you still really want to play the sims 2 FAST, you just need to upgrade or buy a brand new computer. Check your pc warranty maybe the company that sold to you may give some upgrade discount.

PS:Don't download any software that claims it can make your pc run faster. Trust me..it only make it worse.

If you just downloaded it the game will be a bit slow....well OK really slow but if you have some of the graphics up on high that might be the problem because my cousin has mostly all the Sims 2 for the computer that might be it

Wtf are you saying. Get more education so people can understand you more clearly. I assume you mean you are trying to play The Sims 2 and it is running slowly, while The Sims ran relatively smoothly. The Sims 2 is much more graphically demanding and requires a much faster computer than The Sims did. Compare your computer with the recommended specifications for The Sims 2. Consider upgrading or something. There's generally no "fix" you can download that will just magically make something run faster if the computer sucks.

The Sims 2 demands a better, processor, video card, more hard drive space and ram than the Sims 1 ever did, so to get your computer to run the sims 2 a lot faster and smoother I suggest major upgrades or a new computer.

The Sims 2 takes up a lot of space. When on it change the game specs to lower settings and id try d/c your internet and closing any progs that are not being used. It should run faster now but if its running terribly slow still you may want to empty your hard-drive a bit and I'd avoid getting any expansion packs...
Hope this helps, sims 2 is a ridiculously huge file i have all the expansion packs and its nearly filled up my hard-drive. On my pc I have Msn, and the Sims 2 expansions lol
