Here's probably the best peice of advice you'll ever get.
Mother's don't want anything that they have to work with. Imagine this:
Cook all day for Christmas dinner, clean house quickly before guests arrive, get dressed quickly, forget an earring, mix match shoes, wrap gifts, "Where is Susie's gift?" Run to Walmart get Susie the sister in-law's gift, wrap it, run the kids out of the kitchen, burnt the turkey, the mixer broke, no lemon pie, run the kids out of the kitchen again, answer the door, answer the phone, run back to the gravy (already sticking), little 2 year old John is trying to open the presents, grab him, get the cat out of Grandpa's eggnog. Finally sit down for dinner, get everybody refills, forgot about the cake in the oven, go get it, dinner's over, she maybe had 3 bites. AHHHHH time for presents! Something relaxing for her. Tammy got a new cd- cool. Bob got a guitar pick and case- cool. Her sister Sally, your aunt, got a spa bath set-cool. "That looks so relaxing" she thinks. Her turn, she opens the big box excited inside, what could this be? A vacuum cleaner. Disappointed feels her brain, but not her face, she would never let that show. So after all that, she can cleanup when everybody leaves and use her new vacuum cleaner. wow.
Get my point?
Get your mom something nice. She wouldn't buy you a leaf blower to help you out with your weekly chore of disposing of the leaves in the yard so you wouldn't have to use the rake anymore, now would she? Tis the seasons, you enjoy, let her have fun too. Get her a handheld video game, you are never too old for fun. My mom just turned 40, and I got her an Ozzy Osborne cd.

Lots of family around. Laughter in the house. Good food smells. Told they are loved and thank them for raising you. Let them know they did a good job.
