Unfortunately it can be very hard to introduce a male now that oyur pet has been on its own as they will fight nine times out of ten. You could try introducing a second male but it will be a very long slow process adn may not work at all. it would mean laeving them in seperate cages side by side and introducing them on neutral territory for short periods and always supervised and see how they go over time lenghten the time they interact if they do not astart fighting adn then if all goes well let them spend short periods in a clean cage together. But if it doesnt work im afraid hte only solution is to get a female and deal with the offspring as it is very hazardous butnot impossible to have a gerbil neutered as they do not take to anesthetic too well.

It's worth a try. Since gerbils are social animals, yours would probably be happier if he had a companion. Since he's still young, the chances of him getting along with another gerbil are good. Make sure it's another young male, and take your time with them. Start by introducing them on neutral ground, outside of the cage. There's no need to put a screen or anything in between them as long as you are watching them.
After they've gotten acquainted, you can put them in the same cage, but be sure you keep a close eye on them for the first couple of days. Typically, if they're not going to get along, you'll know within the first 48 hours. Just monitor them closely--some slight scuffles will be normal, but if you see anything that looks like serious fighting, or the scuffles lead to a gerbil getting bloodied up, you'll have to separate them.
Good luck!

Hi it's the same answer with most small pets. Male and male no, female and female yes. You could get two males and they would get on for a day probably but then war would break out. This is due to hierarchy situation. I would also double check sex of your gerbil as many pet shops say one thing and mean another.

As long as there isn't a female with them, they shouldn't fight. I used to have them, and I had 3 females and they got along. Just keep the girls out and they'll probably get along just fine as long as they have stuff to keep them occupied, like an exercise wheel and tubes to play in, and stuff to chew on.

You can get another male, but also get another cage, in case they do not decide to get along. Some males can be territorial.
