There were supposed to be 48 and 23 survivors on both ends of the island. Now does that include Kate's guard and others who died the first couple of hours? Also, 13 of from the tail section got kidnapped by the others, never seen again, and Nathan was murdered. But only 4, not 9 were seen to make it to the camp. A woman drowned the first day, Shannon, Boone, Libby, Ana Lucia, Mr. Eko are supposed to be dead, Michael and Walt left; that leaves 51. But only about 15-20 are usually seen throughout the show.
Why do you think they made that number so high? The story could run perfectly with 20 or so survivors, without the need to stupid deaths, dont you think?

I'm not really sure. There's all those extra people that never have lines or anything. I can't count them. Why in the wotld did the producers decide to bring Nikki and Paulo into it. I was watching that first episode with them and I was like What the crap when did they get there??? They should just leave the other survivors out of it. There better not be any Nikki and Paulo flashbacks or I'll be MAD!!!! I don't like them at all! Sorry I got a little off topic.
