I have recently reestablished my aquarium. I left the gravel nearly untouched in the changing of water process. No fish were in the tank or have been for 5 months. I have a undergravel filter as well as a filter that pulls the water up and runs it through a carbon + filter and the other one is some black thing. It is made by Whisper.I have a 30 gal. tank. I took out all but about 5 gallons of the tank and replaced the water. I treated the water both by PH ( 7.0 ) and a water conditioner. The system was stable for about 4 days The fish have been in the tank about 6 days. I have 4 fish. Two are the same and are gold with the fan tail. 2 are white and gold. Only one is laying at the bottom of the tank. He is one of the gold fan tail fish. I am feeding them 2 types of food. One is goldfish flake and the other is shrimp pellets formula. All appear to be fine except the one. What should I do to fix this issue with the one fish? I have just added about 1 tsp of aquarium salt to the water.

well, seeing that the other fish are still fine it might just be a problem with the fish, like it could be sick or something cause how you described the care you put in your fish tank is very great so maybe it could be where you bought it from that caused the problem.
also just a tip try a different type pellet then the shrimp pellets because the shrimp pellets dirty the tank too quickly, try using koi/pond pellets.

Maybe nothing is wrong with him. When I first brought my two home they both moped and sat on the bottom for a few days and then one was really mopy and sat there until the other one prompted him to get up. I do think it's strange that there were no fish for 5 months. How come you didn't have fish all that time? You mean you had used gravel in the tank with fresh new water? It just seems to me like the one is getting adjusted. If you are putting both pellets and flakes in there they should all be eating. I would just leave it and see what happens. Have never used aquarium salt.

I'd test the water for ammonia. If the tank was empty of fish for 5 months you may have lost a lot of the good bacteria in the filter and now it's cycling again.

If you do have ammonia do a small water change (10%) on a daily basis to keep it under control. Expect the nitrites to spike next and then nitrates once the cycling is near completion.

since you are at the end of one week test your tank for ammonia this is usaually how long it takes to get to the first part of the cycle--your tank is going to cycle again because you have had no fish for so long the nitrification bacteria ha died off (most of anyway)

it's probably sick. I'm sorry. Might I suggest getting some corycats (catfish) to help clean the bottom of the tank
