how does the speed of a standard desktop PC compare to that "supercomputer"

Univac will blow away a standard PC. Measurement of PC is GHZ while UNIVAC is in FLOPS orFloating Point Operations Per Second. Pc is only miniflops while univac is in Teraflops so it's like 1000more times faster than PC.

Hi riostar,

Lucas mentioned something about that in an interview (I think that it was "60 Minutes") a couple of years ago. He said that the computer that they used to create the special effects in the original "Star Wars" was as powerful as what kids now have on a Playstation.
