Indeed the equation for the reaction would be:

Pb(NO3)2 + 2 NaI ---> PbI2 + 2 NaNO3 . . . and it would appear bright yellow. However, after it is let sit awhile, the yellow solid (the PbI2) [the precipitate]) will sink and the clear liquid (the NaNO3) will be on the top.
