I am in a wonderful relationship with a really nice guy and we have discussed having children. I am 30 and he is 36. Have started trying since last month and was just wondering if anyone has any advice, ie best times to try, what I should eat etc in order to concieve quickly. Have started to take folic acid tablets on friends advice. Thank you.

I figured I didn't want to get pregnant, and of course it happened! For some reason I ovulated REALLY early this cycle.

Just relax and don't make a big deal of it. When you get really horny, just do it. Count 15 or so days before your next cycle is due and have sex a lot. Or try the online ovulator calendar, it's free. Good luck...

Hi Lorraine,

The best way to increase your chances of concieving is by charting your cycle. Take your temperature every morning when you wake up. It will rise slightly when you ovulate, around the middle of your cycle, and will stay higher until your period comes. Once realesed your egg is only viable for fertilisation for 12-24 hours.

Also keep an eye on your mucus. It will become stretchy like egg white as your aproach ovulation. Sperm can survive for a max of 5 days in this most fertile mucus.

It is recommended to have intercourse every other day in the week before you ovulate and then for a day or two after. The rest of the time your are naturally infertile!

Make sure you are taking pre-natal vitamins. Avoid alcohol, smoking, soft cheese, uncooked meat. I would recommend buying a pregnancy book, there are some great book out there!

Most of all relax and enjoy this exciting time!

First I would suggest not stressing out to much. That could be a huge factor. Don't just have sex around ovulation, not everyone ovulates exactly like the "monthly calender" suggests. Enjoy each other and miracles can happen. Three months isn't much time, so keep trying. Folic acid is great to take before getting pregnant, but watch your intake level once you become pregnant as too much is bad for the baby. Good luck and have a great time!!!

As most people have already said, just relax and don't stress about it.

I have a friend who decided when she had to have a baby by to fit in with her career, she tried everything, she only became pregnant after she had given up on the whole idea.

Folic acid won't help you get pregnant, but is very important prior to and in the early stages of pregnancy to help prevent birth defects. Keep taking them, or foodstuffs rich in folic acid such as fortified cereal and spinach, and good luck.

hiya! cheapest method of working out if you are ovulating is by charting your basal body temperature and checking your cervical position and mucous. Your temperature goes up after you have released an egg, and you get clear, egg white type discharge when you are ovulating. It worked for me and i conceived after 6 months of trying with an irregular cycle.

I also bought some ovulation predictor kits off of ebay (similar to home pregnancy tests) which i bought in bulk and were quite cheap compared to others around. You use the tests over 5 days, the bolder/darker the line the closer you are to ovulation (these only work once you have established some form of cycle).

glad you've started taking folic acid. 14 days after the first day of your last period is your most fertile time, we started having sex on day 10 and did so every day for a whole week (poor hubby was knackered) and that did the trick for us. best of luck.

it all depends on how long your cycle lasts ( your cycle is the first day of your period, up until the start of your next period ) if your cycle is 28 days long you'd ovulate around day 14 of your cycle if your cycle lasts 30 days then you ovulate around day 16. the best time to concieve is any of the four days leading up to ovulation. two days before you ovulate is the best time to have sex. check out www.mymonthlycycles.com it will show you when youre fertile

Just try often and enjoy it. Don't use charts or tablets or calculate cycles or things - it turns a fun thing into a stressful ordeal.
