Yes. We're talking George H.W. Bush, (George I), not our present ruler, Chimpy McFlightsuit...I mean George W. Bush.
During a campaign stop on August 27, 1987 at O'Hare Airport in Chicago he commented that: "I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God." This is well documented and can be easily confirmed by anyone with internet access and two minutes of free time.

Actually he was trying to say Athenians, or people from Athens, Greece, who are Greek citizens, but he got confused and said the wrong word. As usual!
