They cut down the field behind my house for the winter and my mom informed me yesterday that we may have mice in the house. Im so nervous! I hate things like that. How do I get rid of them humanely without a smell or seeing them (if thats possible)?

There are live catch traps called a "tin cat" - you bait it and place it somewhere along a wall where you've seen mouse droppings or seen a mouse running and the mice (being naturally curious) will go inside but can't get out. You will then have to take the trap outside and let the critter go. That is the only Humane trap available. Now for the best way to get rid of them - glue traps baited with a dab of peanut butter. The mouse gets caught in the glue but can't get off. You must then humanely dispose of the mouse - the best way is insert mouse and trap into a paper bag and smash mouse quickly with a club to kill it. Otherwise it could linger for days dying of thirst or hunger stuck to the glue trap. Snap traps are quicker but tend to be a bit messy especially for the squeamish. Bait has the problem of the mouse dying in inaccessible areas and smelling up the place.

Using poison to kill mice can cause secondary poisoning of pets. Unfortunately traps work the best. You can purchase traps that don't kill the mice. But you will have to take them far away from your house to release them or they will be right back in your house. Always use peanut butter for bait when trapping mice. They love it and it lasts longer than cheese. These traps can be purchased at your local hardware store or garden supply store.

Well, there are Have -A- Heart traps that enable you to catch them. Cats work, too; especially if you don't want to set a spring trap.

Don't use poison in the house or they will rot in the walls and you will never get rid of the stench.
