If you start to think critically and not reactively you will find that all of the American journalism is fraught with propaganda catch phrases. History is continually rewritten leaving out the why the other guy was an enemy. When you find words in any article such as evil, non christian, liberals, evolutionist, creationists, blacks, whites, Jews etc you know at that point the writer has a closed mind and is unwilling to look at any other point of view. Everything seems to be one side or the other with very little middle ground if any. When someone tells you not to read something that is the time to read it. For example Aljazeera on the Internet. They pride themselves on presenting the other side of an argument. There is also Reuters news, BBC news, CBC, Australian News etc even Russian news in English. Russian propaganda is much easier to spot because you are at a distance. But being well informed and being critical, requires you to put some effort into finding various news and information sources. At least you seem to realize that you may be confined in your information and are trying to think your way out of it. You represent about 1 in a thousand people. Most people just want to buy some more junk.

One periodic joke-I'm sure you can find several sites on the net that have this one-is the call to ban the dangerous chemical dihidrogen monoxide. It points out all sorts of dangers associated with that chemical. If critical thinking is not a well-ingrained habit, the better written of these will put you into a frenzy. Of course, dihydrogen monoxide is another way of saying water. I deal with people all day every day who need my help a little but need critical thinking a lot to make their lives better. If you're cynical, you may think of critical thought as the opposite of advertising.
