All of the women in my family have been very fertile. Meaning my grandmothers and great grandmothers and so on have given birth in their 50s to perfectly healthy children.

I believe a lady in her 60's gave birth not too long ago. There was a famous photographer on Oprah last week that was in her 50's I think and just started having kids. She said she wishes she had started earlier.

After 35 years of age there is an increased risk of chromosomal abnormalities (such as Down's Syndrome), also fertility decreases as women age, with peak fertility being in the late teens and early 20's.

Maybe your ancestors did have children late in life, but there is a big difference in having a last child when you are over 45, and having your first child at that age. I'm sure they had babies at that age because there was no efficient method of birth control.

If you want to wait until you are in your 50's and close to retirement to start a family, you could, but by then you may have "missed the boat" entirely and would also probably see your children get married and have families of their own. Many women are menopausal by 50 and then can't even hope of having a baby of their own.

Talk to your doctor about this and follow his advice.

Personally, I would not want to be the child of a mother who is in her 50's.

I'm sure you probably could but, think about this if you wait until you are 50 to have a baby, even if you live to be 75 you will very likely not get to see your grand kids grow up at all, or enjoy your older years, wouldn't it be better to just make a little time when your in your 30's, so you can enjoy your family? Plus just because you are fertile at 50 does not mean your husband will be.

The average age range for fertility in women is from 14 - 44. That said girls younger than 14 can and do get pregnant and women older than 44 can and do get pregnant. Just don't count on being able to.

As for safety, with medical advances in recent years women as old as 63 have given birth by in vitro in the past few years. Your best bet is to "bank" some of your eggs when you are in your 30's to be fertilized and implanted later (if you need to.)

I feel you honey.... Im in my 20s and I have absolutely no time what so ever for a boyfriend let alone children. Once all my goals in life are met, then I want to have children. maybe my late 30s because I think all women are aware of the complications of being older and pregnant. I think it is perfectly fine to have babies at a later age. Just dont miss your mark. We spend our entire lives trying not to get pregnant and when we try to..... we cant..... its a catch 22!

P.S: The oldest to give birth is believed to be a 63-year-old woman from Highland, California.

I believe you'll be able to have a healthy baby in your 50's. It's not uncommon. My friend had a baby when she was 48, although it's not quite 50, I believe it's never to late. Also if your family is fertile and have had healthy children you'll have no problem. Good luck

i do no longer discover it almost as creepy, gross and egocentric as having an abortion at age 50. I additionally do no longer discover it almost as creepy, gross and egocentric because of the fact the approach that would abort because of the fact of a 20% threat of down syndrome, or because of the fact they considered 70-3 hundred and sixty 5 days-old mom and dad to be too a good number of a hassle for a toddler. yet then i haven't been area of the "kill it for its very own reliable" crowd. I additionally do no longer discover it creepy, gross or egocentric for a woman of fifty to have intercourse. became that the "something this dumb" you think of she did? I do discover it ironic that your persons are performing like the judgmental comprehend-it-alls you accuse this lady of being. You act as though she'd committed against the regulation. All she did became get pregnant. unexpectedly, I think of. There. i became a hundred% hassle-free, and that i do no longer "think of so too." i think of you should techniques your individual business enterprise. and that i wish her toddler has a bigger IQ and a bigger earnings than yours.

Give careful consideration to this idea. If you are not having kids because your own personal lifestyle does not have time for them, the longer you wait, the harder it will become for that decision. You will continue to be busy. Children are not something to "fit in."
