Maybe you could have a friend proofread for you. Someone who does proofreading on their jobs.
I'm a writer and also do editing and proofreading. I do it for my friends and family all the time for free, but it's what I do for a living and I need to get paid for it. Most people can't/don't like to give away their services for free.
Does you school offer a service? You might ask a counselor for referrals. Or why not pay someone a little bit to proofread your essay? It's only fair.
