What I mean is that some plants you can cut part of it off and put in wanter and it will start to root. Is the Hawaiian Schefflera the same way??

Yes, you can. Here's a web-page that gives you fairly complicated instructions on rooting a schefflera, but I've had success just cutting off a piece and sticking it in water. Good luck.
