Wouldn't have an idea as far as a term, but in my opinion a smartass person is someone who must be pretty miserable, and they only try to make others that way by acting stupid......I pay no attention to these type of people....I often even play the reverse-psychology on them and ask THEM a smartass question....(if they make me mad enough)....
