I am absolutely terrified of spiders. I cannot go near them at all. If there is one within 6 feet of me, I scream. I can't hoover them up, stamp on them, put them on paper/glass to throw out, the long length bug catcher etc .. nothing will make me go near them. I have heard that putting chestnuts on your window-sills prevents them from coming in as they do not like the smell of chestnuts. Anyone tried that? or any other remedies?

Purchase some Sevin dust and sprinkle it around the outside edge of your house. Especially the doorways. Place it close to the house so it won't be tracked in by you or your pets. Inside the house use a teaspoon to place it in the inner corners of closets under stairwells and hot water heater closet. Remember spiders like dark places so try to think of areas in your house where they can hide and place the Sevin dust in those areas. We have done this for years to battle fiddleback spiders in our area. A bite from one of these can be very serious. Good luck.

I feel exactly the same. There's a huge one in the bathroom right now and a few weeks ago there was one in my room. I slept in the living room for a week. Usually they dont last long because i have a dog and a cat. (as much as i'd rather the spider didn't actually die.) Theres not really any way of stopping them that actually works, you can keep windows and doors shut but they'll still find a way in somehow. Sneaky creatures. So yeah, the only advice i can give, sleep with a cat or dog on your bed for protection :L

Horse Chesnuts work, the conkers from inside not the whole lot. Put them in the rooms you have problems with and spiders seem to disappear. Just you might have problems finding them now at this time of year

You can have an exterminator spray the perimeter of your house, if you are in an apartment then tell your landlord about the problem. It is very common to spray for them when it starts to get cold.

mothballs will keep them at bay. You could use an insect bomb twice a month and never harbor spiders again.
