It used to come on in the early mornings and I think it was actually puppets. The first one had something to do with The Wizard of Oz. The opening song went like this: "The land of Oz is a funny funny place where everyone has a funny funny face and the streets are paved with gold. And no one ever grows old. In the funny land of the land of Oz"

The second cartoon was again, like puppets and it was heavily based in religious themes. I think it was about two brothers or a family. It usually came on on Sunday mornings.

"Tales of the Wizard of Oz" produced by Rankin/Bass originally aired 1961. Puppetter was Fred Hall.

They're three sad souls
Oh me, oh my,
No brains, no heart,
He's much too shy.
But never mind you three,
Here's the Wizard as you can see.
He'll fix that one, two, three
In that funny place called the world of Oz.
Oh the world of Oz is a funny, funny place
Where everyone has a funny, funny face.
All the streets are paved with gold,
And no one ever grows old.
In that funny land lives the Wizard of Oz.

The other one sounds like "Davey and Goliath" but that was claymation, not puppets, made by Art Clokey, they guy who did "Gumby". Or, if much later, perhaps "Nanny and Isaiah"?

I remember the first one you are talking about. It wasn't puppets though but animated. It was the wizard of oz. My husband remembers it better, I'll ask him when he gets home in about 10 minutes and I'll get back to you. I don't remember the other one but he might.
