To find the prime factor, first divide the number by the smallest possible prime (2). This factorization becomes 2 x 9 Then nine can be divided by the next smallest prime (3). Then the factorization becomes 2 x 3 x 3 The last quotient is a prime number (3), and so this is the prime factorization of 18.
