I've thought about this question a lot. At first I thought that Severus Snape killed Dumbledore because he had turned "evil" or had always been evil. However, I've reread the books several times now (with close attention towards the few scenes surrounding Dumbledore's death) and now I believe that Snape killed Dumbledore at Dumbledore's request.

If you look at the last few things said by Dumbledore, they are rather ambiguous. Dumbledore says "Severus...please...?" This could be interpreted as either Dumbledore begging for his life, or Dumbledore asking Snape to remember a past promist. Then, later, when Harry is running after Snape, Harry calls Snape a coward, and Snape responds with, "DON'T--....CALL ME A COWARD!" This last one could be either Snape getting angry, or something else.

Fundamentally the reason why I believe that it was at Dumbledore's request is because the solution that J.K. Rowling comes up with is too simple…and Dumbledore seems to be smarter than that…

I have heard about this before and I think yes. I heard an interesting theory about it and I believe it. Dumbledore knew about the unbreakable vow Snape made. Draco or Snape would have had to kill him, and Dumbledore would put himself for anyone in the school, either he would die or Snape/Malfoy would. He is a self-less person, so naturally he asked -- or ordered, Snape to kill him. Snape was instructed to kill Dumbledore BY Dumbledore.

Yes. Severus Snape was ordered to kill Dumbledore. The question is...who ordered him? Was it Dumbledore himself, who, desperate to achieve victory, chose to sacrifice himself? Or was it Voldemort (or Narcissa, still on the Dark Side, though), in order to save Draco and harm Harry Potter and his side? These questions, alas, will be answered only with the coming of book 7....keep up practicing those spells...ACCIO BOOK 7!!!!

No Malfoy was. my family agreed that snape and dubledore had something about them. Dumbledore probably realized that snape would kill him edventaly so Dubledore called him to help "cure him" from the poison. I also think i know who R B is.

Snape wasn't ordered to kill Dumbledore, Malfoy was, but Snape did make an unbreakable vow with Malfoy's mother that if Draco was not able to carry it out, that he would do it so that Voldemort wouldn't kill Draco and his family. He was ordered not to touch Harry as Voldemort had plans to do that himself.

Hey ! nice subject here !!! well my theory still is that Snape didn`t really kill him because I mean if Dumbledore is really the best and most intelligent magician in the world he would have noticed that Snape was going to betray him sooo I saw this interest fact in one of the books (I can`t recall which one of them) that there is a potion that you take and you die but not for real like for some days so I think everything was planned out so that Dumbledore would fake his death so that Voldemort would think he took him out of the map and then showing up to fulfill some kind of a task.
I lovee to discuss all harry potter themes ! =)

Yes he was, but by Dumbledore himself!! Dumbledore had to die to save Harry so that he could finish of Voldemort. Snape, by the way, is good. He will help Harry finish off Voldemort.

Yes, absolutely, or he wouldn't have left Harry behind, alive and unharmed.

I think it's awesome that Dumbledore's last dying act was to save the child of a Death Eater from becoming a murderer.

Edit: What's with the thumbs down?
